what is the british rebirth society

Who we are

The British Rebirth Society is a community of dedicated rebirthers who have set, and continue to update, the professional standards of their rebirthing practices and trainings throughout the UK. These standards are followed by all BRS practitioners and are laid out in the BRS Constitution. Every member is committed to maintaining themselves and their practice at the highest personal and professional levels with ongoing peer and other supervisory support, and by continuing their practice of conscious breathing in their own lives.

What does the BRS do?

The BRS functions as a professional body, as a place for its members to advertise their practices and as a central point for members of the public to find a rebirther for themselves. We are an active community interested in lifelong learning and teaching. We gather regularly to breathe together, share our knowledge and give support and encouragement to one another. We also act like an accrediting body with a set of standards of which all our members are trained. We provide supervision, certification, and general information and advice.

History of the BRS

The BRS was formed in 1980 when Leonard Orr, the founder of rebirthing, was in London for the second UK professional training. It was originally called the Rebirthing Society and was connected to a journal created by John Hunt. This journal was later called Earth Breathes, and then Breathe, run for many years by Robert Moore, and becoming an international breathwork publication.

The first process of registering practitioners began in 1981, basing its entrance on the Findhorn principles of self acknowledgement before peers. Since then we have developed the professional standards we have today together with creating, with practitioners and friends, a conscious community that is always in the making.

We honour the founders and teachers of Rebirthing and other breathwork and allied schools, along with all those working towards a conscious world.

The Mind and the Breath are the King and Queen of Human Consciousness
– Leonard Orr

Rebirthing is a simple, gentle yet powerful conscious breathing technique. It brings into awareness not only our unconsciously held beliefs and emotions but also the relationships we have with our bodies, ourselves, and our world. When we consciously breathe with this awareness, we make it possible to resolve, integrate and heal previously unresolved issues within ourselves.

This then frees up energy, bringing greater aliveness and joy, allowing us to move towards fulfilment of our potential as human beings. Rebirthing is a powerful healing method which offers you an experience of freedom and mastery in your life. It brings expanded awareness on all levels: physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual.
